on-demand machine creation for VDI project
by Luca Contessa
Hi List,
I've made an oVirt node installation (oVirt ver. 4.4.9) for a VDI project and I'd like to ask if it is possible to create an empty pool with a maximum number of machine and as the machine are required by the end user (so when the users use the think client to request the provisioning of a machine of the pool in question) the pool will dynamically create the machine and link it to the end user.
To specify once more the pool will be create with no machine in it, only a maximum limit on the number of machines, and as the user start connecting to the pool the VM will be created, started and provisioned to the user requesting them.
Then when the user stop using the machine they would like the system to save the datas and stop the machine and from that point on when the user will connect the virtual machine connected to their account on the AD system should start.
Do you know if this is possibile?
Thanks a lot to everybody,
Luca

How to turn off the state of tlbflush for Windows vm
by Hean-Seng Tan
We encounter random Windows BSOD (blue screen of death) issues for vm's in environment running oVirt Engine 4.4.4. Upgrading the environment to 4.4.8 does not fix the issue. There is a suggestion from https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1868572 to turn off the state of tlbflush under hyperv section for the Windows vm. Does anyone know how to achieve that?
Currently, vm description returned from api call includes the following section that has tlbflush state:
<features>
<acpi/>
<hyperv>
<relaxed state='on'/>
<vapic state='on'/>
<spinlocks state='on' retries='8191'/>
<vpindex state='on'/>
<runtime state='on'/>
<synic state='on'/>
<stimer state='on'/>
<reset state='on'/>
<frequencies state='on'/>
<reenlightenment state='on'/>
<tlbflush state='on'/>
</hyperv>
</features>

How to set Disk profile via REST API?
by ovirt.org@nevim.eu
Hi,
I have ovirt version: 4.3.4.3-1.el7 I can't find in the documentation how to set up a server disk profile during creation via the REST API. If it didn't work during creation, then it doesn't matter later after creation.
How to please set up a disk profile server via REST API?
Thank you.

Moving backing datastores from NFS to iSCSI
by David Johnson
Hello braintrust,
My ovirt cluster is prone to hanging when it is put under a high IO load.
In an earlier thread, someone determined that this is consistent across
architectures and infrastructures when NFS is used for the backing
datastore for the cluster.
I was able to see a huge improvement by switching putting an nVME drive in
as the intent log cache on the NAS. But, alas, that appears to have only
put off the reckoning, and the cluster locked up again when I doubled the
IO workload.
Prior email chains to this list have established that the hang occurs
because "something" in qemu throws the VM into PAUSE state instead of
IOWAIT state when under load. Other emails I have viewed seem to point at
NFS as the root cause, so a "least cost" suggestion is to migrate from NFS
to iSCSI as backing storage.
Is there an existing procedure for migrating Ovirt VM storage from NFS to
iSCSI?
Current architecture:
Ovirt engine 4.4.4.7-1.el8 on centos 8.x, on bare metal intel desktop
2 hosts 4.4.4.7-1.el8 on centos 8.x
TrueNAS Core 2020, with shares exposed as NFS
10 GBit dedicated storage Network
Thanks,
*David Johnson*

oVirt 3 Node with GlusterFS
by Joseph Goldman
Hi list,
Building a new kit for a client, 3x servers each with a 5 disk RAID 5
10k SPIN and a 3 drive RAID 5 SSD
I am thinking of doing a straight replica 3 GlusterFS, 1 for spin and 1
for SSD so
a) all servers have technically local access to disks
b) any server can die without much impact beyond awaiting migrate
Is just a replica 3 best option for space + performance in a VM
environment?
Is there any specific tricks or traps I should look out for building
such an environment? Any recommendations on why this is a good OR BAD
idea?
Thanks,
Joe

Downloads failing
by Gary Pedretty
Any idea when the download repositories will be fixed. Seems like none of the mirrors are working so we cannot do new installs of Ovirt
Error: Error downloading packages:
Cannot download x86_64/ovirt-imageio-daemon-2.3.0-1.el8.x86_64.rpm: All mirrors were tried
This has been happening since Monday.
Thanks
Gary
