[ovirt-users] VM convert Windows2012R2 to Ovirt

It's the ovirt guest tools iso.

Please note there is a warning message at the import dialog – «You have selected windows OS and have not selected VirtIO drivers. This may cause the system not boot up». However selecting the ovirt guest tools iso doesn't help.

Looks like the only solution is to install the virtio-win package on the host. Nothing depends on it so it's not installed by default.

I've just converted a Windows 2012R2 VM, and it boots without issues.

Thanks

Vinzenz.

I double checked, system matches the configuration. Cluster is running on Intel Westmere Family.

Also I tried to boot into the repair mode. After loading viostor driver from the CD I was able to see the drive. Probable the issue is that there are no vio* drivers in /Windows/System32/drivers. However there is rhev-apt.exe in the root directory.

And the CD is the ovirt guest tools iso? Or is it the RHEV guest tools iso?

Vinzenz,

I just tried libguestfs-RHEL-7.3-preview. I have converted a Windows2012R2 VM with no issues, except it doesn't boot – see attached screenshot.

Hi Pavel,

Sorry for the delay I have been on Vacation last week therefore I couldn’t respond any earlier.

First of all, please ensure that the configured system matches the actual Windows 2012 R2 configuration

Also please let me know what is the supported CPU Family on your cluster?

Regards,

Thanks

Hi,

Yes I have tried...

virt-v2v -v -i ova -o rhev -os NFS:/Export/ --network ovirtmgmt /rhev/data-center/mnt/NFS:_Export/TemplateWin2012.ova -of raw

But I get...

[ 101,0] Converting Windows Server 2012 R2 Datacenter Evaluation to run on KVM
virt-v2v: error: virt-v2v cannot be used to convert Windows > 7 / 2008R2

Please try the https://people.redhat.com/~rjones/libguestfs-RHEL-7.3-preview/ repository and upgrade the virt-v2v version to 1.32 which will bring the support for higher Windows versions
