However, when it comes to local storage and storage domains (when trying to mount local directory etc..) - the behavior of oVirt, IMHO, is weird, compared to other virtualization - your VM's are being switched to another domain, instead of just leaving them in the same domain and disabling live migration.

This could probably kill live migration (at least in the first stage - see AMD MxGPU in the KVM forum video's work from AMD and Alibaba with live migration) - but that's a pretty good solution to utilize Optane DC/NVDiMM.

Not sure about a redesign of the architecture (e.g. breaking the
local/shared DC distinction), but one of the following
already-existing hooks might be enough for your needs:

https://ovirt.org/documentation/admin-guide/appe-VDSM_and_Hooks.html
https://www.ovirt.org/develop/developer-guide/vdsm/hooks.html

https://github.com/oVirt/vdsm/tree/master/vdsm_hooks/localdisk

https://www.ovirt.org/develop/developer-guide/vdsm/hook/scratchpad.html

https://www.ovirt.org/develop/developer-guide/vdsm/hook/vmdisk.html

Adding danken. Dan - do we have any recommendations re this? Is
localdisk preferred over vmdisk? localdisk is newer, has much more
documentation, but only in the source, not on the website.

No idea, did you file an RFE (or know about one)?

Copy/move in the UI will be part of the next 4.3 minor release:
