What does "ping host1.example.com" return? Does it return the IP address of the network associated with glusternet?

The hostname in the brick - in your case "host1.example.com" from host1.example.com:/gluster_bricks/engine/engine, should be resolvable to a valid address from the engine host.

Just not sure if I am interpreting right?
