Thanks Simone,I think the problem is that /tmp is mounted noexec by default on my servers.Remounting and enabling exec seems to fix the problem.I think that allowing users to specify a working temp space would be better than assuming that /tmp is mounted exec and also in my case big enough to store the hosted engine vm (which the installer doesn't check, it just fails late in the install process).
