SDRS in vSphere is not for DIsaster Recovery but for dynamic (transparent) storage vmotion of the disks of VMs, to efficiently balance the usage of the pool of storage resources available.

So the system can be in manual mode (and only suggest you the kind of storage vmotion to execute to have efficient usage), or in automatic mode.
