i think this path should work as well:  4.1.8-> 4.2.8-> 4.3.3
may be ovirt devs should confirm that.
do you have a hosted-engine or gluster enabled?

I am a little behind in updates but I couldn't find any specific instructions going from 4.1.8 to 4.3.3. From what I read so far, the process for upgrading should be as follows:

4.1.8 --> 4.1.9 https://www.ovirt.org/documentation/upgrade-guide/chap-Upgrading_from_4.1_to_oVirt_4.2.html
4.1.9 --> 4.2.0 https://www.ovirt.org/documentation/upgrade-guide/chap-Upgrading_from_4.1_to_oVirt_4.2.html
