is it possible to add host on which ovirt is installed ?

Hi. I am trying to do some lab. I have one Unix server, on which I installed oVirt package. I have already access to console. I would like to create some virtual servers, but to do so, I need to have datacenter up. I checked in docummentation, that to have it running, I need to have: - cluster - which I already made - host - here I have problem, because I am trying to add the same host on which ovirt is running, but I get error without any notification - storage domain - which I guess is created automatically during ovirt installation. Any ideas :) ?

I'd suggest to deploy it as a single host hyperconverged gluster deployment. You can easily do it connecting to its cockpit web ui.

Hi. I am confused now. removed all previous configuration and follwed instruction: https://www.ovirt.org/documentation/gluster-hyperconverged/chap-Single_node_... Than I read: Deploying on oVirt Node based Hosts oVirt Node contains all the required packages to set up the hyperconverged environment. Refer to oVirt Nodes for instructions on installing oVirt Node on the host. You can proceed to setting up the hyperconverged environment if you have an oVirt Node based host. What I found, is that oVirt Node is a separate installation for separate machine. So now I am confused :( What exacly steps I need to perform, to have GUI in which I can create virtual machines, having only one server available :) ? Thanks in advance.

Normally in oVirt you are going to have a central manager, the engine, plus N virtualization hosts running VMs storage on external storage. Using it with a single host with no external storage is a kind of degenerate case. I'd still suggest the single node hyper-converged hosted-engine deployment that's is designed exactly for your use case. You are going to install oVirt node on your bare metal machine: oVirt node is a kind of minimal Centos based OS deployment for oVirt purposes. hosted-engine deployment will create a first VM there based on a ready to use appliance and oVirt engine will be executed there. The storage will be exposed by the host itself via gluster. The easiest deployment path is: 1. install oVirt node on your bare metal server from an ISO: https://resources.ovirt.org/pub/ovirt-4.3/iso/ovirt-node-ng-installer/4.3.6-... 2. connect to its cockpit UI: on https://host_address:9090/ 3. run single host hyper-converged depoyment from hosted-engine tab from there
Thanks in advance. _______________________________________________ Users mailing list -- users@ovirt.org To unsubscribe send an email to users-leave@ovirt.org Privacy Statement: https://www.ovirt.org/site/privacy-policy/ oVirt Code of Conduct: https://www.ovirt.org/community/about/community-guidelines/ List Archives: https://lists.ovirt.org/archives/list/users@ovirt.org/message/OVLMMA2JJYP3HI...

If your server is not running oVirt Node - you can follow the steps listed in "Deploying on Enterprise Linux Hosts" in the same doc
