"Actual timezone differs [...]" after using the new virtio-win guest tools

Hi, we are currently preparing our Windows software packages for update oVirt from version 4.3 to version 4.4. One of the novelties[1] of version 4.4 is the change from the ovirt-guest-tools to the virtio-win guest tools. We are currently running version 4.3.9.4-1.el7 in our oVirt cluster. When we are installing the new virtio-win guest tools we get the tooltip message: "Actual timezone in the guest differs from the configuration". The guest agents of the two guest tools are completely different, the ovirt-guest-agent is written in Python, the qemu-guest-agent is written in C. So my guess was, that there would different result send to the ovirt-engine. As I looked into the sources of ovirt-engine, especially into the timezone Java stuff, I did not found any changes in the last few months. So is this bug fixed, with the new ovirt version 4.4, or is this aspect new? P.S. The os in the vm was Windows 10 version 1909 [1] <https://ovirt.org/release/4.4.0/> Best Regards Tobias Scheinert

I have the same issue with Server 2016 and Windows 10 on 4.3.9. My understanding is that Linux uses ntp and windows uses cet and that causes the time zone warning you see. Someone correct me if I am wrong, but this can be safely ignored. I am not sure if anything was fixed in 4.4. I haven' t real the release notes. NTP is a protocol and CET (Central European Time) is a timezone. Windows and Linux are both using the network time protocol (NTP). Your statement makes no sense to me. What you probably mean is, that Linux normally uses its hardware clock in UTC.

Ignoring is not my nature. Best Regards Tobias Scheinert

Someone mentioned this in another post. I have NTP configured but I still have the exclamation stating the time zone is incorrect. The vm's function normally but I'm not sure why the windows machines are reporting incorrect time zone. This is an ongoing issue and haven't seen anything in the way of a fix. Apologies for any misinformation. I was passing along what someone else posted.
