we are  not maintaining .project file in the git repository. Eclispe will automatically create .project files when you import the projects through maven.

For class not found issues, did you look into the section "Change project settings to Resolve compilation errors" in http://www.ovirt.org/Building_Ovirt_Engine/IDE ?

If you follow the steps in that section, you will not see any missing classes error.
