Upon further research, it seems as though we were able to solve this without a manual procedure (see https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1132086).
This fix will be delivered as part of the engine's upgrade in 3.4.4 (and 3.5.0, of course), so ultimately, no release notes are required.
