Nir, thanks for this. it works.

I think it would be great if the hostid could be set in vdsm.conf and 
then reflected in ovirt engine db

During my search for the host id somewhere on the host i also found a 
number of undocumented features.
I.e. there seems to be a way to use patterns in vdsm.conf to exclude 
certain interfaces or vlans.

I could not find detailed documentation on these items.

If there is a need for help on documentation i am  happy to chip in.
Just tell me where you would like me to start.
