Thanks Jim for all the effort in helping get the project together, in
regard to non-strategic (see ovirt.org/board) new members I believe we
should vote them on based on merit.

yes, I think we should do this. I'm going to suggest we get it rolling
in a week or so. 11th of July would be good so as not to have people
out, or keep it open a weeks given vacation 4th July on our next meeting.

Thanks for the feedback, Carl. I agree that I'm pretty new to the
project and need to make a name for myself in the project before I could
hope to join the board. As background, I did contact Jim after his email
to suggest that there was still a need for a mentor resource for the
board, and that I'd be happy to do that. Having discussed it with you &
Itamar, I don't think I need to be on the board to participate in that
way, though.

yes, I think we should do this. I'm going to suggest we get it rolling

I think it would be great to send a broad "reminder" that people can nominate
individuals for the board. It should include a description of what the
qualifications of a board nominee should be.
I think then we should then schedule a vote for the board. I agree, it should
be after the July 4th week. But I think the note could/should go out before then.
Honestly, I have no background in terms of how this works in other communities
so it's not at all clear to me what qualifies someone to be on the board. I
think even just a discussion about that may be a good place to start.

In the case of oVirt, the structure is not to consider Board seats to
be a restricted resource - it's OK to add people regularly without
worrying about the growth pattern (as long as it increases over time
rather than the reverse.)
As an example of what is going on right now, the Infra team is working
on being a formal sub-project, which would mean those of us who are
maintainers there (TBD) would be the eventual Board members. But the
formal sub-project pathway is currently only written for code-focused
projects, so we'll need to run some revisions by the Board. Once that
is done, we can be voted on as a sub-project and put in incubation (of
some sort.) Then at e.g. next quarter's (or month's) Board vote, we
might become a full sub-project, thus elevating all maintainers to
Board level.

FWIW, that has worked for me. I made sure I wasn't shoe-horned on to
the Board to start since I had zero merit in this project coming in,
and I'd argue that mentoring has been one of the areas of merit for me
over time. (My current planned pathway to the Board is via being a
maintainer of the Infra sub-project.)
