It adds various capabilities that may not be possible to achieve even with direct manipulation of the Jenkins internal API. The following ticket describes how support for pipelines was added to the plugin in a recent version (2.3): https://issues.jenkins-ci.org/browse/JENKINS-26918 Please update the "Groovy post build" plugin.
