[RFC] Cutover time for DNS for move to OpenShift

This is an OpenPGP/MIME signed message (RFC 2440 and 3156) --------------enig1FCEA1222813D6A189538D80 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1 Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable We've been working on the final checklist for cutting over to using OpenShift. http://etherpad.ovirt.org/p/wiki2www_-_cutover_checklist Dave and I would like to switchover Thursday, to give us Friday for any polishing work before a relaxing weekend. :) I'm thinking of cutover target for DNS of: Thursday 29 Nov. 23:59 UTC [1] 4 pm PST (for me who is doing the work) 7 PM EST (go eat dinner East Coast oVirt hackers) Midnight UTC (go to bed Euro oVirt hackers) 2 am IST (sweet dreams Tel Aviv oVirt hackers) Thoughts? Objections? Alternative ideas? During the switchover we'll be changing the current wiki to read-only, migrating the data, and waiting for DNS to change. When it does, we'll make the new wiki writeable and start a check-through to be sure all is looking correct. During the entire time, the rest of the world will get either the old or the new site, both of which have the same content (with URLs of WordPress content redirected to the new wiki scheme.) There should be zero downtime of readable content. Cheers - Karsten [1] I like to use 23:59 UTC as a time because it's unequivocal about which day that is for those of us West of Greenwich. --=20 Karsten 'quaid' Wade, Sr. Analyst - Community Growth http://TheOpenSourceWay.org .^\ http://community.redhat.com @quaid (identi.ca/twitter/IRC) \v' gpg: AD0E0C41 --------------enig1FCEA1222813D6A189538D80 Content-Type: application/pgp-signature; name="signature.asc" Content-Description: OpenPGP digital signature Content-Disposition: attachment; filename="signature.asc" -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.12 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Using GnuPG with undefined - http://www.enigmail.net/ iD8DBQFQtR0j2ZIOBq0ODEERApsUAKDfk5LrrYCM755y6hwOb2+oqzS+AgCgnPXR AeJr3suk79IRYiFB85kVU1c= =6jIh -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- --------------enig1FCEA1222813D6A189538D80--

I'd check with the various teams if they have anything big planned where they need wiki access. Otherwise I have no preference based on time.

As it happens, we wouldn't normally want to do a change right now as they developers are working on the 3.2 Alpha. However, we're ready to go with this change and if we have to delay the change, it's going to be a few weeks until Dave and I can be available to do the change. In today's meeting the Alpha got delayed a bit, so I think we're going to be OK. In the future, it's probably a good idea for Infra to have a change freeze around every planned oVirt release stage. But I think the fixes to the website are worth the riskier change at this time, as one of the main reasons for the changes is to make it easier to highlight the releases and work being done. If we pick a few hours around the suggested time for a window, we can just announce that to arch@. 2100 UTC Thursday to 0100 UTC Friday. - Karsten --=20 Karsten 'quaid' Wade, Sr. Analyst - Community Growth http://TheOpenSourceWay.org .^\ http://community.redhat.com @quaid (identi.ca/twitter/IRC) \v' gpg: AD0E0C41 --------------enig8B9A49C0113C10C684FBEB95 Content-Type: application/pgp-signature; name="signature.asc" Content-Description: OpenPGP digital signature Content-Disposition: attachment; filename="signature.asc" -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.12 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Using GnuPG with undefined - http://www.enigmail.net/ iD8DBQFQtkBM2ZIOBq0ODEERAkX4AKChSNlUjvEuFruhCoSTPmmq82AjdACePAj/ oozGUegP1yE+1hrFyc+rztU= =LTd3 -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- --------------enig8B9A49C0113C10C684FBEB95--
