Moving Jenkins to AlterWay Hosting

Hi all, Now that Kévin Mazière from AlterWay is on the list (hi Kevin!) it might be a good time to get down to nuts and bolts regarding getting Jenkins onto the new hardware. My understanding of where we are right now is: * We have agreement on hardware specs for the hosted server * There may be some special requests for isolating oVirt hardware from the rest of the network Is that correct? I will let the people who know best take the conversation over at this point. Thanks, Dave. -- Dave Neary - Community Action and Impact Open Source and Standards, Red Hat - http://community.redhat.com Ph: +33 9 50 71 55 62 / Cell: +33 6 77 01 92 13

Hi all, Any reaction to this? Do we need anything from Alter Way besides a RHEL install and root access? Thanks! Dave. On 11/14/2012 12:47 PM, Dave Neary wrote:

Any reaction to this?

for installing a jenkins master server, i don't believe so (for now) are we going to get slave machines as well or just the jenkins master for now? Eyal.
Thanks! Dave.

Yes. :) IIRC, we'll have 2 physical hosts at Alter Way. We want to run Jenkins bare metal on one of them, but the other host can be sliced in to multiple VMs. One of those VMs will need to run Mailman, another could be for Gerrit. Then we have what is leftover to use as Jenkins slaves. OTOH, we'll have 2 systems from Red Hat very soon (maybe as early as next week), and those are intended to run multiple VMs primarily as Jenkins slaves. One question is, are we running plain KVM or will we try an oVirt setup on any of these? - Karsten --=20 Karsten 'quaid' Wade, Sr. Analyst - Community Growth http://TheOpenSourceWay.org .^\ http://community.redhat.com @quaid (identi.ca/twitter/IRC) \v' gpg: AD0E0C41 --------------enigDF3A477FB390EBDF5124D620 Content-Type: application/pgp-signature; name="signature.asc" Content-Description: OpenPGP digital signature Content-Disposition: attachment; filename="signature.asc" -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.12 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Using GnuPG with Mozilla - http://www.enigmail.net/ iD8DBQFQsQoP2ZIOBq0ODEERAuaUAJ0cS9LpIoDTUTCZGMY+za5EpvQgXQCfXsYU 7ukfLwq2ummIdW7MjLjFN1I= =1gHJ -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- --------------enigDF3A477FB390EBDF5124D620--

i'd say let's eat our dogfood (but only stable one :) let's decide on the most stable oVirt version we have till now and use it to manage it. it will show the community we have confidence in the product and will surely be easier to manage with webadmin rather than virsh/kvm. and it'll give us a chance to integration foreman with ovirt and jenkins :) Eyal.

While I haven't actually tried oVirt on a single system, it feels like quite some overhead. But dogfooding is good and I do see benefits in the API. Let's look ahead and suppose we get more physical machines but in different datacenters; could we use the same oVirt to manage those phyiscal machines and would we want to? If so that's a huge plus for oVirt.
and it'll give us a chance to integration foreman with ovirt and jenkins :)
+1 on this integration (though plain libvirt gives us quite some as well).

My understanding is slightly different - we will have 1 physical server dedicated to the project, and then we can have a number of VMs on AlterWay's oVirt-based Cloud offering. I don't believe there was any guarantee they'd all be on one dedicated server. If we're going to use foreman to provision we will be using DHCP and I'd really like our own VLAN because of it. I'm also a big fan of using public IPs when possible. So a /28 or /27 block would be nice. Also some IPv6 space (even though foreman can't manage that right now). Not sure how reasonable this is, but just some thoughts from my side.
