You get the beautiful *new* homepage instead! This switch has been in the works for many months. First we discussed the new design ideas and the merging in to one CMS (MediaWiki) - this discussion was on arch@ as well as infra@. Then Garrett designed a theme for MediaWiki that would cleverly disguise some of the wiki aspects for non-logged-in users, all while delivering a new, consistent look and feel.
