I don't recall any specific reason to require a 64bit machine for the
engine.
The 64bit is needed for the hypervisor thus for supporting the single
node use case (management + hypervisor on same machine).

For me it seems that this is a limitation: for small deployments,
the
engine can be setup on an already running machine.
And that machine can be quite old, but it will cope with the engine very
well.
