That's actually bad news, not good ones, because now we have no clue what the actual problem was :-)
Anyway, principally this is unsupported. Usually this is done only during engine-setup when the engine is down - in order to prevent the new engine access the old database.
After doing this you should immediately run engine-setup. Did you? Was it successful?
Any chance you'll be able to try and reproduce this (on some other system if needed)? For the record, yours is the first such report I heard of. I still can't imagine how this can be a bug of ovirt, but what do I know :-(
