Not between 3.5 and 4.2 as 4.2 doesn’t support 3.5 anymore. You have to go through 3.6
(move 3.5 to 3.6, then 3.6 to 4.2)

No you can't.
You need to upgrade to 3.6 first, both engine and hosts.
Once you're at 3.6, you can upgrade engine to 4.0 and hosts directly to 4.2.
Then you can upgrade engine to 4.1 and then to 4.2.
