This seems to indicate that the handshake with glusterfs server
failed. Can you please post glusterfs logs from the server specified
in the gluster:// URI?

Stopped all gluster processes and removed all logs, restarted gluster
and tried to start the VM. All logs from /var/log/glusterfs are here:
