I would rather stick with the el6 iso if possible for the reasons mention= ed in the previous email. Hey Simon, yes - it is still planned to do el6/CentOS based ovirt-node-iso releases. Contributions and testing is always welcome. - fabian
Hi,
The point of "Node" is that it should be like an appliance. You should= =20 not care what is "under the covers". You just use it as a back-end=20 appliance that talks to oVirt. So it should not matter what version of= =20 OS it runs, right?
If you start doing things that are particular to the OS, two major=20 disadvantages come to mind: 1. You will start "bloating" the system by adding new dependencies.=20 This dilutes the value of a minimal node that minimizes management=20 requirements 2. You will diverge from what's been tested by the oVirt= =20 QA team. This increases the risk of your deployment.
Since Node is supposed to be an appliance, I would prefer that the=20 oVirt team focus their energies on making it as small and robust as=20 possible, rather than putting their energy into multiple OS versions of= Node. =20 not sure i agree. there are differences between the fedora and .el6 distr= o's, especially around things like testing of backward compatibility for li= ve migration between different versions (for a clean upgrade path).
Many thanks. =20 =20 -----Original Message----- From: Itamar Heim [mailto:iheim@redhat.com]=20 Sent: 09 December 2013 19:47 To: Bob Doolittle; Simon Barrett; users@ovirt.org; Fabian Deutsch Subject: Re: [Users] oVirt Node ISO =20 On 12/09/2013 08:58 PM, Bob Doolittle wrote: the fedora one covers newer features / fast moving the .el6 one is more r= obust / tested. =20 so depends on what you are trying to do. =20

I only see the fc19 version currently:
