vds_name holds the name you give to the Host in the UI when you add it to ovirt. So make sure that you try and give it a new name when you add it in the UI and that no other host has this name.
If you enter in ovirt a new name that you have never used for any other host and still get this message I believe that this is a bug and that the error message is wrong somehow. In that case please attach engine logs.
unique id isn't about the name, rather the host uuid as reported by the host. MEP - did you remove the old host from the engine? do you have any other host in the engine?
Noam.

Hi guys! I'm running ovirt 3.2 in Fed 18 with about 100 vm in 3 DC and fc/sw storage. Yesterday I've removeded 1 DC. It's seems impossible to reuse the last host removed from the DC in another DC. The Status says "Install Failed" and in the log I find this error : duplicate key value violates unique constraint "vds_static_vds_name_unique". I afraid to corrupt SPM/db and I have not modified the relative record in the db. Changing name/ip of the server or recreating the unique id doesn't fix it. Any ideas? Is it a bug?
did you remove the host first? yes
did you try to register same host in another name? yes and I try to change ipaddress too.
(btw, you don't need to remove the host at all, you can just move it between clusters, even in different DCs)
I know but we have had some problems with this node and I reinstalled it.
I have created the vdms.id # mkdir /etc/vdsm; cp /proc/sys/kernel/random/uuid /etc/vdsm/vdsm.id
bus same result. :(
