I tested on master which is a few commits further, there have been no changes in the notifier during that time. In the top of the log all configuration values are printed. What is the value of MAIL_FROM there?

I set up the engine notifier to send notifications, but when the email is delivered they are coming from ovirt@hostname.domain instead of the address that I have specified in the MAIL_USER and MAIL_FROM section of the ovirt-engine-notifier.conf file

I've tested on master and could reproduce this.
Sorry I meant could not.
(that is, I have MAIL_FROM=kuku@example.com and that's the sender I get in messages)
Maybe try to grep for ovirt@hostname.domain in your configuration to see where it's coming from?
