Moving an ISO domain from one storage domain to another

Hello, We are decommissioning a storage array and I would like to move the existing ISO domain to another array. Is there a Move or Migration function for ISO domains? I attempted to create a new ISO domain however that option is not available in the drop down menu. We are running version 3.5.0.1-1.el6 (yes - I know it's old - but it works for us :-) *** *Mark Steele* CIO / VP Technical Operations | TelVue Corporation TelVue - We Share Your Vision 16000 Horizon Way, Suite 100 | Mt. We support moving disks between storage domains, but this work only for data domains. However in current version (4.2), you can upload ISO images directly to data domain of any type, so you don't need the ISO domain or NFS in your FC/iSCSI based setup. To copy the ISO files from the old ISO domain to data domain on new storage, you can: 1. upgrade to 4.2 2. mount the old iso domain on some machine, best one of your hypervisors 3. upload the ISO files from dom-uuid/images/1111.../* to a data domain using ovirt SDK[1] If you want a simpler solution, maybe keeping 3.x: 1. detach the old ISO domain 2. add new empty ISO domain on another server 3. mount the old ISO domain on one of the hypervisors 4. rsync the images from old domain images/111.1../ dir to new domain images/1111.../ [1] https://github.com/oVirt/ovirt-engine-sdk/blob/master/sdk/examples/upload_di... Nir, Thank you for your email. We will go with option 2 (staying on 3.x). Question - can you only have one ISO domain? Is that why I don't have the option of creating a new ISO domain while there is one in the cluster? *** *Mark Steele* CIO / VP Technical Operations | TelVue Corporation TelVue - We Share Your Vision 16000 Horizon Way, Suite 100 | Mt. Yes, only one ISO domain in a DC. You have to put into maintenance and detach, before you can create and add a new ISO domain. Old one still visible and attachable until chosing "force remove" On Wed, Oct 17, 2018 at 1:07 PM Nir Soffer <nsoffer@redhat.com> wrote:

Not quite true at the moment unfortunately, Nir. If you have a block based storage domain you cannot done it because of this bug: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1589763 And it doesn't work where probably would be more useful, avoiding so NFS if not already in use for other reasons. Created in 4.2.3 but always shifting the solution... even if both priority and severity have been marked as urgent: I suggested to decrease them if there is no plan to solve in short time actually... The bug is scheduled to 4.2.8, hopefully we will have time to fix this. People wanting this bug to fix soon should vote for it here: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/page.cgi?id=voting/user.html&bug_id=1588400#vote_1588400 Nir

you are right. I misunderstood it, because when I reported the problem and during my tests I had broken links in the file system of the host, like I wrote here: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1588400#c3 and I assumed there was no real lvm mapping between the presumed uploaded iso and a real device... I have just tried on oVirt 4.2.6.4 to upload a CentOS 6.2 boot iso on an iSCSI based SD and then start a VM with run once and it was indeed able to start. Thanks. But so where can I find the device on storage domain that maps to the ISO file I uploaded? The problem still remains, as you noted, when in need to attach CD to running VMs and also in situations where during install you have to swap CD, like reported for Windows and .vfd files inside the same bugzilla here: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1588400#c9
