Did the policy change?
I was under the assumption the only
supported operation is, when ovirt
alone controls libvirt, and nobody
else?
virt-manager breaks this, or not?

well, it does work. ovirt changes the credentials which you'd
have to use in virt-manager (or play a bit with /etc/libvirt/auth.conf to allow libvirt
access with other credentials too)
and then as long as you don't touch the ovirt vms you should be fine:)
