Cannot logon cockpit for Ovirt 4.5.5
I am new to all of this. I recently downloaded the latest ISO, ovirt-node-ng-installer-latest-el9.iso, and I am trying to follow the directions. When I try to access cockpit on another PC with a GUI desktop and try to logon cockpit with root and the password I set for root when I created the server, it says wrong "Wrong user name or password". What user name should I be using to logon cockpit? All the the information I found, I am supposed to use root with the password I gave root when I created the oVirt server. What am I doing wrong?
I don't know if it's the case with the ovirt-node-ng image, but in base CentOS 9/10 ISOs cockpit logon is disabled for root by default. Login via Console/SSH and take a look at the file "/etc/cockpit/disallowed-users". If 'root' is listed you can comment it out/remove it and systemctl restart cockpit.service Be sure to have a very, VERY secure root password though (and optimally network-restrictions on who can access your host).
Adding to Kevins colment: Using oVirt is discouraged, you should use AlmaLinux or similar especially when building it from scratch. https://blogs.ovirt.org/2026/01/ovirt-4-5-7-is-now-generally-available/:
To everyone using the oVirt Node NG we urge you to switch over to another way of using the product for ensured stability and security due to the way of how that product is structured.
