Need to change switch... ovirt kvm concerns?

Hi I need to migrate the switch (equipment change and VLAN implementation) so I ask you to tell me what to do about the ovirt KVM cluster. What procedures and concerns I must have ? best regards, PL

Hello! Since you say "VLAN implementation" Am i to assume you have used unmanaged switches prior? If so i would as a step one set the ports for KVM on untagged/Native VLAN ports so that the switch change is transparent to ovirt. Then you can go ahead and set up new VLAN tagged virtual interfaces that you can migrate the management functions and so on to later once everything is as you wish. This way you do not need to reconfigure all of the features you have in ovirt initially. Other concerns would be regarding your storage nics and so on. Especially if you run hyper converged as you will be isolating the nodes gluster traffic. Do you have multiple nics bonded for redundancy in active/passive? If you do then you can move one half of the nics as long as the old switch and the new switch have a link where the old switch runs on the temporary untagged/native VLAN that you move the ovirt cluster to. With the limited info you have provided i think this is just about everything i can think of. Good luck! On Wed, Apr 14, 2021 at 12:00 PM <jpedrolima@gmail.com> wrote:

Hello MAthias What I want to do on Saturday is to physically replace the switch with two new ones connected in redundancy. The referenced vlans are physical. In the configuration of ovirt kvm there are no virtual VLANS, only network interfaces and a bonded interface. Procedures: i) Shutdown all Vm´s ii) Shutdown all KVMs and Ovirt-engine iii) Changing the switches (Hardware) iv) Start the entire environment I think there will be no problems ... all of this will be transparent for ovirt. Correct ...? Thanks for your info and "precious" help PL

Vlans are never physical and i think you are mixing something up.. Vlan literally stands for virtual lan. But as long as you follow procedures for shutting down according to documentation and on an connectivity level nothing changes after starting.. then yes it should be transparent and fine. Just make surenothing changes at layer3 and that the layer2 design is the same from hosts point of view. On Thu, Apr 15, 2021, 14:24 <jpedrolima@gmail.com> wrote:

Hi Mathias When referring to "physical vlans" .. obviously I was referring to connections at the switch level. Sorry for the misunderstanding. This operation is to be performed on a client Can you specify the shutdown procedures and the documentation to which you refer? I work more with Vmware and OVM, and my knowledge of Ovirt is recent Thank you for your help
