[Users] Windows 2008 R2 Guest - Cannot load drivers

Hi all I am trying to install Windows 2008 R2 x64 as guest OS. Installation requires some additional drivers to be loaded. I suppose these are virtio-win drivers. I downloaded latest virtio-win drivers, mountet iso when it was required. I chose drivers under WIN8, but every time I load those drivers, Windows crashes with BSoD. I tried to configure guest VM with IDE disk, but then it still requires additional drivers. So I am not sure anymore what drivers Windows is missing and how to add them. Edgars

Have a look at the following page en the table that it contains. Is has a nice listing coupling OS to the relevant folders in the iso you mentioned. (Hint, use the Win7 folder ;-) ) http://pve.proxmox.com/wiki/Paravirtualized_Network_Drivers_for_Windows Regards, Joop

Thanks But when I chose drivers from WIN7 it says: "No new device could be found. Make sure the driver files are correct and located on the driver installation media." Edgars On Mon, Oct 28, 2013 at 1:52 PM, noc <noc@nieuwland.nl> wrote:

Do you select the folder or do you select 1 or more devices that are presented?

Weird, test setup is down at the moment so can't test it right now, but might have time this evening using my home lab setup. Let the list know if you find it otherwise I'll post tonight. Joop

Tried to do the same with Windows 2008 x64, and still no luck... On Mon, Oct 28, 2013 at 3:02 PM, noc <noc@nieuwland.nl> wrote:

I might have a clue what the problem is. Let me explain what my steps are: - create a VM, setting the guest Operating System to Windows 2008 R2 - attach the win2k8r2.iso to it - start it - let the installer commence until it complains about the drivers - Change CD in the webui to virtio-win-0.1-65.iso - Follow the onscreen instructions and browse to (D:)\WIN7\AMD64 - Select all drivers (makes it easier later on) - Now you'll get your window back asking where to install Windows AND a yellow triangular stating: Windows cannot be installed to this disk This is a fake error. What it means is that it can't find its windows install media. - Change CD in the webui to win2k8r2.iso - Press Refresh in the Windows installer dialog to make Next active and select your disk and install Windows Regards, Joop

Thanks for your help, but as I said that Win2008 gives me "No new device could be found. Make sure the driver files are correct and located on the driver installation media." This error occures as soon as I load all drivers (or just any one of them). I tried two different iso files with 2008R2 and 2008. I also tried two different virtio-win versions. However I just tried also WIndows 7 Pro 32bit, and I was able to load drivers for it and install it. The only notable difference is that Windows 7 is 32bit..
