[QE] oVirt 3.6.1 Hosted Engine test day

Hi, oVirt 3.6.1 RC4 included latest bits allowing to auto import Hosted Engine storage domain within the Engine. In order to have a wider coverage of the Hosted Engine workflow we've scheduled a Hosted Engine test day for next week on Monday, December 14th. Please join us testing Hosted Engine with oVirt 3.6.1 RC4, both on a clean install and on an upgrade from 3.5 flow. Thanks, -- Sandro Bonazzola Better technology. Faster innovation. Powered by community collaboration. See how it works at redhat.com

Hi, I redid a new deploy of hosted-engine setup: - one hypervisor 8Gb - NFS4 for storage: vm_engine + data + iso + export - hosted-engine : 2Gb - FC22 for both hypervior and the vm engine - All OS updated - I am using ovirt 3.6 pre + 3.6 snapshot The installation went smoothly. After adding the first Data domain, the engine tried to import the hosted-storage, but couldn't activate it I detached the hosted-storage, then I removed it, the engine re-imported it again, this time with success, I could activate it, and voila the VM engine showed up on the webui..... but I couldn't edit the VM engine, I tried add a new nic card, when I click OK to submit the change : First I got the error : Cannot set single display to non Linux operating system. the VM engine OS was set to OtherOS on webui, since there no FC22 on the list, I selected Linux, the error disappeared, but then I got another error. When I try to modify the engine's properties, I get "Cannot edit Virtual Machine Disk, The VM is not managed by the engine" Regards. <https://www.avast.com/?utm_medium=email&utm_source=link&utm_campaign=sig-email&utm_content=webmail> Cet e-mail a été envoyé depuis un ordinateur protégé par Avast. www.avast.com <https://www.avast.com/?utm_medium=email&utm_source=link&utm_campaign=sig-email&utm_content=webmail> <#DDB4FAA8-2DD7-40BB-A1B8-4E2AA1F9FDF2> 2015-12-14 18:07 GMT+01:00 Roman Mohr <rmohr@redhat.com>:

Our intention is first to support editing cpu type and memory. Adding nicks and disks will probably follow. What provisioning actions would you like to see enabled on your hosted engine VM?

Hi, Thanks for the reply, I think, as you said, changing memory + cpu is more important, and adding nic cards would be nice, especially to load iso images, so we don't have to link the storage to the management network. we just add a new nic card to the VM engine on the storage network and that's it. Another thing, I installed a test VM, Centos 7x64 with all updates (7.2) , I installed the ovirt-guest-agent, I tried to change cpu and memory on the fly, the first worked the second didn't. I tried to change the emulation from pc-i440fx-2.1 to pc-i440fx-2.3 but without luck Regards. 2015-12-14 20:33 GMT+01:00 Roy Golan <rgolan@redhat.com>:

I guess we should not execute an invalid SQL statement when the host does not comply with the cluster, right?

OK. That worked with a little help. The help being: - create a new temporary small storage domain, activate it and then if the hosted-engine storage domain is already imported remove it first. Wait a bit and then it will import correctly. - Tried to import my existing storage domain but couldn't because no active storage domain. Might have been my install although it was rather clean. Only thing it has been upgraded from various 3.6.x install to 3.6.1RC4 on F22 host and C7.1 hosted-engine. Second install is a bit larger. It consists of a NAS (for NFS) and 3 hosts, all FC22 and hosted-engine being C7.1. The first host is my work workstation so has been upgraded from F19 to F22 but seems to be working nicely sofar. Got some NFS shares setup on the NAS to provide: /nfs/ovirt/data /nfs/ovirt/export /nfs/ovirt/iso /nfs/ovirt/he Ran hosted-engine --deploy and all went fine. Ended up with a working install. Albeit I had to create a dummy SD and then the import of the hosted-engine SD and my old 3.5 SDs worked. So next I tried to add the second host but got an error (attached) about the storage domain not being clean. Hosted-engine correctly detected that it was a second install. Regards, Joop

Hi, oVirt 3.6.1 RC4 included latest bits allowing to auto import Hosted Engine storage domain within the Engine.
Got some NFS shares setup on the NAS to provide: /nfs/ovirt/data /nfs/ovirt/export /nfs/ovirt/iso /nfs/ovirt/he
Ran hosted-engine --deploy and all went fine. Ended up with a working install. Albeit I had to create a dummy SD and then the import of the hosted-engine SD and my old 3.5 SDs worked.
So next I tried to add the second host but got an error (attached) about the storage domain not being clean. Hosted-engine correctly detected that it was a second install.
thanks for the feedback, looking into this.
Regards,
Joop

Second install is a bit larger. It consists of a NAS (for NFS) and 3 hosts, all FC22 and hosted-engine being C7.1. Hello, is it ok to test installing the engine VM of SelfHostedEngine from the ova? Because trying to install it gives a release apparently dated 20151104 Installing: ovirt-engine-appliance noarch 20151104.0-1.el7.centos ovirt-3.6 1.5 G ovirt-hosted-engine-setup noarch 1.3.1.2-1.el7.centos ovirt-3.6-pre 266 k or is it not important because what preinstalled inside the ova is not correlated with the engine bits themselves that are going to be installed on it...? Thanks Gianluca

Ok, the update of the engine inside the appliance VM went smooth and now I have in web admin portal: Version 3.6.1.3-1.el7.centos with my storage domain up and my ISO domain up. And after update (also verified with a global restart) I verified I can now indeed see the hosted_storage storage domain in status "Maintenance", see screenshot: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BwoPbcrMv8mvQTg2ZHRGeXRQWWs/view?usp=sharin... I guess those are failed attempts to import the hosted engine SD.
First run *select * from business_entity_snapshot ;* The *command_type* should match the output you got during setup (and you should have 3 records). If you want to double check then paste the output here before proceeding. And then you can: *delete from business_entity_snapshot ;* @Sandro I would expect to have a "clean" action for those tasks? @Tal why the compensation table isn't clean after rollback of failed attempt to import a domain
I am stuck ...!!!
