Hi, I am assigning IP using the REST API as like http://www.ovirt.org/Features/Cloud-Init_Integration but it seems the IP is not assigning to the vm. But the other details like host address etc are correctly saving. I am using cloud init to assign IP address The following is the xml which i used for assigning IP $xml_data = " <action> <vm> <os> <boot dev='cdrom'/> </os> <initialization> <cloud_init> <host> <address>TestMachine</address> </host> <users> <user> <user_name>username</user_name> <password>adminpassw</password> </user> </users> <network_configuration> <nics> <nic> <name>eth0</name> <boot_protocol>none</boot_protocol> <network> <ip address='x.x.x.x' netmask='255.255.0.0' gateway='x.x.x.x'/> </network> <on_boot>true</on_boot> </nic> </nics> <dns> <servers> <host> <address>8.8.8.8</address> </host> </servers> </dns> </network_configuration> </cloud_init> </initialization> </vm> </action>"; The above xml is called with the start function of API. IP is assigned from the ovirt portal and the issue is only when assigning it from the REST API. If anyone knows could you please check if any issues with the it ?

Hi, if you got any CentOS version < 6.5 it will not work as you need at least cloud-init version 0.7.2 as this version supports the used way of submitting the meta-data and user data files to the vm (via cd rom payload). so in short: you need at least centos 6.5 and cloud-init 0.7.2. inside the vm if you can't install this versions for some reason you can still write your own custom script to parse the data. Hi Sven, Thanks for your reply. The IP assigning from the ovirt panel using cloud init is working fine, so i think there may not be any issues with the cloud init version and cent os. The issue is only with the REST API function using cloud init. Is there any other settings need to do to work it with the REST Api calls ? No, this can't be the problem as he stated that it worked when useing cloud-init via GUI. I can't see any obvious error in your xml, but you should get an error in engine.log if your xml is not correct. However I'm no expert for the xml version of the cloud-init data, so there might be a bug in your xml. are you sure your connection via rest works right? e.g. can you list vms from a datacenter? Hi Seven,Shahar, Thanks for you replies.. I am able create vm and also it is possible to set the host address using the cloud init. Only the IP assigning is not working with the cloud init and API function. I am also didn't find out any issues with the xml, there may be any restrictions or something in the ovirt panel or its admin section which prevent the IP assigning using the API function. When you run the VM with cloud-init you get a cdrom with the cloud-init content. Try to mount the cdrom something like: $ mount /dev/sr1 mydir and look at the content of the network file at: $ cat mydir/openstack/content/0000 On 01.07.14 17:10, Shanil S wrote:

No, this is no "option" to activate. The data you submit to cloud-init, gets merged into an iso file by ovirt, which is than attached as an cd-rom into the vm. usually this is /dev/sr1 try to mount it this way in your vm: mount -t iso9660 /dev/sr1 /mnt/ then you should be able to see the folder: /mnt/openstack/ inside this folder all cloud-init data should be available in human readable form (most of it is json) if you do not got this cd-rom inside your vm, this means ovirt was not able to push the cloud-init data inside the vm. in this case, there should be some errors in vdsm.log and engine.log as well. Currently 3.5 is scheduled for release on 2014-08-04, see here for details on the calendar: http://www.ovirt.org/OVirt_3.5_release-management And the calendar here: https://www.google.com/calendar/embed?src=ppqtk46u9cglj7l987ruo2l0f8%40group.calendar.google.com&ctz=UTC The fix could also be backported to 3.4.3, which is scheduled for release on 2014-07-17. Let us know if you consider it important enough to be included in that version. Alternatively, if it is extremely urgent for you, you can backport, build and patch your installation yourself. In this case it isn't very complicated: $ git clone git://gerrit.ovirt.org/ovirt-engine $ cd ovirt-engine $ git cherry-pick -x 42efda3be3c36e0785d114269bcc2b3660c4a138 $ mvn clean install -DskipTests This will take a long time, specially the first time. The result will include the following file: backend/manager/modules/restapi/types/target/restapi-types-3.4.2.jar Take that file and copy it to /usr/share/java/ovirt-engine/restapi-types.jar (after making a backup of the original, then restart the engine.

Hi Juan, Okay.. Thanks for the info. We are waiting for the new updates and i hope we can update it to the 3.4.3 on 17 July. Thank you very much for your help in this issue. :) -- Regards Shanil On Wed, Jul 2, 2014 at 3:39 PM, Juan Hernandez <jhernand@redhat.com> wrote:

Currently 3.5 is scheduled for release on 2014-08-04, see here for details on the calendar:
http://www.ovirt.org/OVirt_3.5_release-management
And the calendar here:
The fix could also be backported to 3.4.3, which is scheduled for release on 2014-07-17. Let us know if you consider it important enough to be included in that version.
Alternatively, if it is extremely urgent for you, you can backport, build and patch your installation yourself. In this case it isn't very complicated:
$ git clone git://gerrit.ovirt.org/ovirt-engine $ cd ovirt-engine $ git cherry-pick -x 42efda3be3c36e0785d114269bcc2b3660c4a138 $ mvn clean install -DskipTests
This will take a long time, specially the first time. The result will include the following file:
backend/manager/modules/restapi/types/target/restapi-types-3.4.2.jar
Take that file and copy it to /usr/share/java/ovirt-engine/restapi-types.jar (after making a backup of the original, then restart the engine.
