Hello I was used tout run ovirt 3.2.2 installed from the dreyou repo and it has worked like a charm until now. I succeeded to upgrade to 3.3.5 official repository but I didn't pay attention with the host vdsm upgrade and I installed 4.14. So the 3.3.5 web engine complained that it wasn't the appropriated vdsm. Then I decided to upgrade engine to 3.4.0 el6 bit this time none of my 6 hosts get successfully activated and the error message is that host emulated is not the good one. I updated all of them to 6.5 with or without the official qemu it is the same. I remember I changed the 3.3 cluster compatibility for 3.4 but I can't rolling back to 3.3 compatibility (tells me it can't "decrease") What can I do now? Fortunately I saved the initial 3.2 webadmin image so that I can revert back to my to my 3.2 functionnal webadmin. Is there such reported issue like mine? Thank you for your help.

Omer - in master VirtMonitoringStrategyTest.testProcessSpecialSoftwareCapabilities() covers that and passes of course with no problems Nathanaël - did you notice any error in engine.log or even server.log under /var/log/ovirt-engine/ - please share them if you can

There´s your problem. You should always make sure that your hosts are at the same level of functionality as the engine. Breakage like this isn´t nice, but you should have paid more close attention to the upgrade process. Having a gazillion different "release" packages floating around isn´t helping, and installing them leaves ".repo" files behind that can mess it all up, but that´s the way it is. That particular issue was just about to annoy me enough to bug report, but then I noticed that it already was:) https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1097874 Thanks Bob:)

A little blurry there, but you say that Engine is now 3.4.0? How about making sure to add the newest repo for 3.4.1 in both Engine and Hosts? http://www.ovirt.org/OVirt_3.4.1_release_notes And take extra care of any old repo's you may have and which of them really are enabled. Then "yum upgrade" the hosts, restart "vdsmd" and see if it makes any difference? /K

actually, upgrading the hosts should always be ok, even if to a newer version. its a bug in engine 3.3 not allowing this. but that doesn't seem related to the complaint here, which requires further investigation with he details Roy asked for.

I found the reason of my issue : dreyou 3.2 repo installed an old external qemu-kvm-rhev rpm intended to support live snapshot and was still on the hosts after upgrading manually vdsm. This qemu version was too old to support 6.5 guest. I upgraded to official qemu-kvm, then everything went on.
