Since export domains have been deprecated starting with oVirt v4.4, what is the preferred/best method for moving VMs from an old oVirt environment into a new oVirt environment? The two environments are totally independent of each other and therefore need an intermediary.

Hi, I would proceed in this way: * upgrade of the existing environment * add new nodes/hosts to the existing environment * create new storage domain(s) on the new storage * live (or not) migrate VMs from old storage domain(s) to new storage domain(s) * drop/delete old storage domains * remove old compute nodes from the cluster/datacenter Simon On Aug 13, 2024, at 1:41 AM, Diggy Mc <d03@bornfree.org> wrote: Since export domains have been deprecated starting with oVirt v4.4, what is the preferred/best method for moving VMs from an old oVirt environment into a new oVirt environment? Unfortunately this is contrary to our strategy. The existing environment is to be decommissioned as-is; no upgrading. Existing VMs need to be moved to the new environment.

You could add NFS storage domain, move VMs to it then detach it and attach to new cluster and import VMs from it. On Mon, Aug 12, 2024 at 8:42 PM Diggy Mc <d03@bornfree.org> wrote:

I’m finally upgrading from 4.3 to 4.4 (OLVM) and using NFS based “Export” storage domains to make the transfer. I have used "export storage domains" for such migrations in the past, but as I mentioned in my original post, export storage domains have been deprecated starting with oVirt v4.4 per the developers. So I assume there is a newer/better/preferred method for moving VMs out of and in to independent oVirt environments. I would like to know what the preferred methods are?
