No problem for us to do that from a technical standpoint. But I'm not sure who should approve such policy decision. 

The other people in the maintainers group are [~iheim at redhat.com] and [~bazulay at redhat.com] which are also not working on ovirt any moe, so who owns this ATM?

I think the best approach would be to open a thread on [devel at ovirt.org|mailto:devel at ovirt.org], announce you are taking ownership and get +1 votes...
