I think you are looking at an old vds_installer.py, which going to be 
changed soon anyhow.
in the meanwhile you can bypass this check:
on the main function on vds_installer.py
      try:
         logging.debug('**** Start VDS Installation ****')
         res = 0# testPlatform()

         if res == 0:
