Thanks for following up... 

I looked on spice-space.org (wiki and the documentation nav link).  I was
actually suprised that the Windows proceedure had more documentation than Linux.

Windows would not allow me to update the driver for the "Standard VGA
Controller" insisting that the best driver was already installed.
