It looks like engine sent: parent_checkpoint_id: None This issue was fix in engine few weeks ago. Which engine and vdsm versions are you testing?

This is likely a result of the first error. If starting backup failed the backup entity is deleted.

Like I said this is very strange because everything was working correctly.
