My wish list is short and simple for the next major release of oVirt: * OS templates for RHEL 9 & 10, FreeBSD 14 & 15, Ubuntu 24.04 LTS, Windows Server 2022, and Debian 12 & 13. * Deprecated "export domain" remains an option. I will need it to migrate VMs from existing legacy oVirt environment to brand new oVirt environment. * Support to run latest OKD.io (Kubernetes) platform as VMs. Anything you can do to help is much appreciated. Thanks.
Great suggestions. Let's not leave out we need enhancement, or the ability to auto-start VM's upon a cluster reboot. Or say, bringing hypervisors back online. this has always been missing from within the UI. I believe overt is "dead" project, leaving to Oracle to continue development. Hi Let's not leave out we need enhancement, or the ability to auto-start VM's upon a cluster reboot. Quite simple and already available since first oVirt version, just configure the instance to be High Available. "I believe overt is "dead" project, leaving to Oracle to continue development." oVirt is far from dead, Anthony, 4.5.7 just released, and it's not just Oracle doing development.
I have ansible automation that builds templates (no, I don't use packer as it's too restrictive for my needs) - mine is straight ansible + python scripts where ansible is unreliable - I currently build templates for ovirt (amongst other things) for alma 8-10, rocky 9-10, debian 13, rhel 8-10, suse leap 16, oracle linux 8-10, windows 2016-2025, ubuntu 2204-2504 and fedora 43. I'm just cleaning up the code and will publish it shortly for anyone interested to use. I can add freebsd. If that's interesting just let me know - I build from the ISO's + online patch, so you'll need to have your own iso's. ________________________________ From: Diggy Mc <d03@bornfree.org> Sent: Monday, December 22, 2025 8:01 AM To: devel@ovirt.org <devel@ovirt.org> Subject: [ovirt-devel] major release wish list My wish list is short and simple for the next major release of oVirt: * OS templates for RHEL 9 & 10, FreeBSD 14 & 15, Ubuntu 24.04 LTS, Windows Server 2022, and Debian 12 & 13. * Deprecated "export domain" remains an option. How about a Manager of Managers? I've been looking at this with a co-worker using the APIs, and basically rewriting a new WebUI that connects to multiple ovit-managers.

That already exists, have a look at https://www.manageiq.org/
Yep, ManageIQ is the oVirt manager of managers, and it is an active project. It can easily work as a SPOG for oVirt and Clouds. It is quite easy to deploy using the container available. That's ManageIQ, which is separate from oVirt and not quite the same as a new Web Interface for oVirt that would give centralized management without relying on an external project.
Glad to see continued development on ovirt. So, there was someone who stayed and took over the project since IBM/RedHat had EoL their RHEV in favor of OpenShift? My mention of auto-start VMs: When we ran ovirt in production with multiple hosts? The HA feature on VMs wouldn’t work for when hypervisors are cold booted IE; cluster has to be powered down for maintenance and brought up cold. The HA enabled VMs never would auto boot. Also no way to specify boot delay. On Friday, January 16, 2026, Sandro Bonazzola via Devel <devel@ovirt.org> wrote:
