That was introduced with my patch
"On Ubuntu, current libvirt library requires <os><type arch=
specification
does it mean that on F20 and RHEL the arch='x86_64' is not valid ?
I checked that on x86_64 with Ubuntu it is.
Could you a test ?
cat << EOF > xml
<domain type='kvm'>
<name>A_SIMPLE_VM</name>
<memory unit='KiB'>10240</memory>
<os>
<type arch='x86_64'>hvm</type>
<boot dev='hd'/>
</os>
</domain>
EOF
and see if : virsh define xml works or not
if not can you send the output of virsh capabilities
