Hi,
I am looking to put together a configuration setup for a new install and was
wondering if it is ok for have both gluster and ovirt running on the same
systems, or if it was better to separate my storage on to anther platform?
I am currently looking into 3 servers with 196 GB Ram, dual 6 core proc's on
each server. Gluster would be installed on each server with a 3 way
replica, ovirt would be running as an appliance and each node would be part
of the ovirt cluster.

From what i have read gluster does not need a whole lot of processing
power,
correct? Should a single CPU multi core proc be able to handle the load of
30+ vm's?
Currently we are on an old EMC NAS device for our vm infrastructure and
would like to find a low cost solution to move to.

What is the reason for ? A lot of stuff is moving into Hyperconvergence
and that saves a lot of hardware and power consumption.
The only thing I would look with more caution is the amount of memory
Gluster itself consumes, but if there are enough resources in each host
for Distributed Storage + Compute stuff I see no problems with that,
unless someone has some strong technical reason for not.

If you have the need to save in power and in hardware than by all means
go for it and do what fits you...
Compute nodes should be treated as a disposable node, One goes out and
you shouldn't have to worry much about it. The more you "hyperconverge"
the more you are exposing your self to self-inflicted chaos
(Complexity). I am the keep it simple and standard guy... Let the next
guy be able to figure things out without having to pull hairs...
Yes is the new thing, the new "Just DO IT!" In my peace of mind, Storage
stays where it needs to be... On its own world of IOPS and Drives.
I know what it is and where is going. Its just not my cup of tea (For
now)

Agree'd don't need to over complicate things, just trying to figure out

With 4.0 is still somehow bleeding edge and not recommended for a
production env; a stable solution will come quite early.

Yes that is the document i have been looking at, unfortunately i am still
pretty new to the ovirt/gluster world. But both seem like the would be a

Indeed it will be a great solution for specific scenarios.
If you can afford to wait for a few months a robust hyperonvergence
integration, you can start playing with it knowing that today it's still
not production ready.
Any feedback on that solution will be really appreciated.
