For Windows you would have to build it, it's mostly python, so not much dependencies required. Thanks, michal

Ok, thanks. from where can I start?
On Fedora 17+ you can install the guest agent by 'yum install ovirt-guest-agent-common' On other OS you can start by checking out the git repository on the OS you'd like to build it on. `git clone http://gerrit.ovirt.org/p/ovirt-guest-agent.git` On Windows you should follow these instructions: http://gerrit.ovirt.org/gitweb?p=ovirt-guest-agent.git;a=blob;f=ovirt-guest-... On Linux you go into the repository $ ./autogen.sh $ ./configure --prefix=/usr --without-sso And then as root # make install However not all files might yet be put into the right places on all systems, and for Debian/Ubuntu systems we don't have any daemon or upstart scripts, so far we only support systemd in the repository so that would have to be done manually. On Fedora 17+ you can install the guest agent by 'yum install ovirt-guest-agent-common'
On other OS you can start by checking out the git repository on the OS you'd like to build it on.
`git clone http://gerrit.ovirt.org/p/ovirt-guest-agent.git`
On Windows you should follow these instructions: http://gerrit.ovirt.org/gitweb?p=ovirt-guest-agent.git;a=blob;f=ovirt-guest-...
On Linux you go into the repository $ ./autogen.sh $ ./configure --prefix=/usr --without-sso And then as root # make install
However not all files might yet be put into the right places on all systems, and for Debian/Ubuntu systems we don't have any daemon or upstart scripts, so far we only support systemd in the repository so that would have to be done manually.
Are there plans to provide packages for Windows or various Linux distributions in oVirt repositories as long as they aren't available in official distro repos? Another little bit off-topic question: what are the criteria for an operating system to be listed as an operating system when creating new servers/desktops? At the moment the same os'es are listed as in RHEV. In my opinion either all distributions which are fully tested (working IDE/VirtIO disks, e1000/rtl/VirtIO nics, maybe guest agent available...) should be listed here - in a similar way as you can find it in virt-manager... For me it's clear that I can run e.g. Debian vms on oVirt and I have to choose Other Linux for debian. But having e.g. Debian, Ubuntu, openSUSE in the list of operating systems and their icons in user and self provisioning portal would look much nicer. Last, it would be great to have a matrix of operating systems in oVirt wiki to provide an overview which operating systems are working and where you can find guest agent packages - as available for e.g. VMware and KVM. I think there are a lot of users tried out different operating systems and are willing to update the support matrix... I think this would help a lot to find the right settings for operating systems. e.g. for Fedora 18 I can/should choose VirtIO disks and nics, but for Solaris 10/11 only IDE disks are working and network isn't working (none of the 3 types). What do you think?

for which OS? Vinzenz - we should have a wiki on this if we don't already have one.
We do have a description in the repository for Fedora and Windows targets, however we don't have yet a description for other Linux distributions than Fedora since we haven't supported it yet. There has been some work done for supporting other distribution targets however without single sign on support.
I will put the wiki pages on my todo list.

well, they are supposed to be packaged and be part of the various distros, but someone needs to try and push them for those distros. in the meantime, i think for OSs which we can, we should have a built guest agent.

today there are code deps for various options/configs per OS. roy golan is working on making these file based configs, which will allow to add more OSs without code changes.
For me it's clear that I can run e.g. Debian vms on oVirt and I have to choose Other Linux for debian. But having e.g. Debian, Ubuntu, openSUSE in the list of operating systems and their icons in user and self provisioning portal would look much nicer.
agree, unless someone will send comprehensive patches for that, i expect roy's work to allow easy patches for other OSs.

Hi, I've got ovirt installed on 2 HP BL460c G6 blades, and my VMs have very poor network performance (around 7,01K/s). On the servers itselfs there is no problem, i can download a file with wget at around 99 M/s. Then i go to ovirt network configuration remove the bonding and then make the bonding again and the problem gets fixed (i have to do this everytime i reboot my blades). SERVER' s Software: CentOS 6.4 (64 bits) - 2.6.32-358.6.2.el6.x86_64 Ovirt EL6 official rpms. Anyone experienced this kind of problems? Best regards, Ricardo Esteves.

Good afternoon, Yes, the "Save network configuration" is checked, configurations are persistent across boots. The problem is not the persistence of the configurations, the problem is that after a reboot the network performance on the VMs is very bad, and to fix it i need to remove the bonding and add it again. In attachment, the screenshots of my network configuration. Hi Ricardo, Are you still experiencing the problem described below? Are you configuring MTU (to something other than default or 1500) for one of the networks on the bond? Thanks, Livnat On 06/18/2013 05:36 PM, Ricardo Esteves wrote:
Good afternoon,
Yes, the "Save network configuration" is checked, configurations are persistent across boots.
The problem is not the persistence of the configurations, the problem is that after a reboot the network performance on the VMs is very bad, and to fix it i need to remove the bonding and add it again.
In attachment, the screenshots of my network configuration.

Hi,
I've got ovirt installed on 2 HP BL460c G6 blades, and my VMs have very poor network performance (around 7,01K/s).
On the servers itselfs there is no problem, i can download a file with wget at around 99 M/s.
Then i go to ovirt network configuration remove the bonding and then make the bonding again and the problem gets fixed (i have to do this everytime i reboot my blades).
Have you tried to check the "Save network configuration" check box, or clicking the button from the host's NICs sub-tab?
This should persist the configuration that you set on the host across reboots..
SERVER' s Software: CentOS 6.4 (64 bits) - 2.6.32-358.6.2.el6.x86_64 Ovirt EL6 official rpms.
Anyone experienced this kind of problems?
Best regards, Ricardo Esteves.

Perhaps you can send pastebin of a 'vdsClient 0 getVdsCaps' (or 'vdsClient -s 0 getVdsCaps' if the first doesn't work) from the host when the bond is slow, and one after you break and create it again? if you don't have vdsClient command you can 'yum install vdsm-cli' and it should be available.

Hi Ricardo, Are you still experiencing the problem described below? Are you configuring MTU (to something other than default or 1500) for one of the networks on the bond?
Thanks, Livnat

Best regards, Ricardo Esteves.

can you compare the network configuration before and after you change it the setup network?
Perhaps you can send pastebin of a 'vdsClient 0 getVdsCaps' (or 'vdsClient -s 0 getVdsCaps' if the first doesn't work) from the host when the bond is slow, and one after you break and create it again? if you don't have vdsClient command you can 'yum install vdsm-cli' and it should be available.

Hi Antoni, The problem is LRO activated on bnx2x driver. After the reboot the LRO comes activated, after reconfiguring the bond the LRO is deactivated. So i created /etc/modprobe.d/bnx2x.conf with: options bnx2x disable_tpa=1 and everythink is ok now after reboot. There was a previous bug open for RHEL5 about this problem https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=518531 should i reopen this for RHEL6? This problem only happens when bnx2x is used with bonds... should this be considered as a bug? Good afternoon, I've having a problem with my hosts, at least one time per week the host that has all the VMs running restarts and becomes unresponsible. After the restart sent to the ilo by the ovirt engine the host becomes unresponsible, the fans on the enclosure go up like crazy. Then the only way to get the blade up is to stop it using ilo or onboard administrator, and then remove it from the enclosure and put it back in and then issue the start using ovirt gui, because using stop/start on the ilo or onboard administrator the blade powers up but becomes unresponsible, doesn't show any image or any boot post messages. Anyone else seen this problem before? Hi, Just found the problem / solution. http://www.novell.com/support/kb/doc.php?id=7007658 https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=518531 It's the LRO activated on bnx2x driver. After the reboot the LRO comes activated, after reconfiguring the bond the LRO is deactivated. So i created /etc/modprobe.d/bnx2x.conf with: options bnx2x disable_tpa=1 and everythink is ok now after reboot. Hi,
Not really.
I can resolve temporally, unconfiguring the bond and then configure it again.
But when i reboot the server the problem comes back.
can you compare the network configuration before and after you change it the setup network?
Perhaps you can send pastebin of a 'vdsClient 0 getVdsCaps' (or 'vdsClient -s 0 getVdsCaps' if the first doesn't work) from the host when the bond is slow, and one after you break and create it again? if you don't have vdsClient command you can 'yum install vdsm-cli' and it should be available.

Hi Ricardo, Are you still experiencing the problem described below? Are you configuring MTU (to something other than default or 1500) for one of the networks on the bond?
Thanks, Livnat

Good afternoon,
Yes, the "Save network configuration" is checked, configurations are persistent across boots.
The problem is not the persistence of the configurations, the problem is that after a reboot the network performance on the VMs is very bad, and to fix it i need to remove the bonding and add it again.
In attachment, the screenshots of my network configuration.
Best regards, Ricardo Esteves.

Hi,
I've got ovirt installed on 2 HP BL460c G6 blades, and my VMs have very poor network performance (around 7,01K/s).
