I prefer keeping vdsm-devel intact. It's a different programming language, with its different set of problems, unrelated profiling issues, and somewhat different target audience.
Having vdsm-devel on fedorahosted is a long-standing cause for confusion. I'd love to see the list moved to ovirt.org.
Personally I see no problem with a separate vdsm-devel list, as long as everyone is also subscribed to devel - the point of devel is to concentrate project-wide technical discussion and put an end to the propagation of CCs we see in oVirt. If vdsm-devel is for VDSM-specific issues, but anything which could impact anyone else in the project can be discussed *only* on devel, then a separate list would probably be OK. However, if we start seeing "To: devel; CC: vdsm-devel" then we're just perpetuating a problem (that we don't know where to talk to each other about development topics).
Yes, I am convinced that it makes sense to phase out vdsm-devel, or at least try to do so, and mentioned it a couple of days ago https://lists.fedorahosted.org/pipermail/vdsm-devel/2014-April/003246.html If there's no public resentment for this, I'd mass-subscribe all vdsm-devel to devel@ovirt.org in a week or so. Dan.
