Can you please clarify exactly what you are doing? I now tried above command on clean git clone, current master. It failed (as expected) due to missing ovirt-engine.spec. So I ran 'make ovirt-engine.spec' and then the command, and it worked. Also please note that above-linked patch does not remove .gitignore. We still have it. It does add a file .gitignore.in and code to generate from it .gitignore.
