[Users] some ovirt questions
by hai wu
1. For ovirt, and future rhev, what's the recommended way going
forward: ovirt node vs vsdm?
2. For ovirt, and future rhev, libvirt would be supported i think,
what's the recommended way in terms of API going forward? libvirt API
or REST API? I am not sure what's the difference between these 2. My
understanding is libvirt might only be good for one physical host, and
REST API would be good for the whole cluster, is this the case?

[Users] Remove and Add host does not work
by Deepak C Shetty
Hi,
I had a host managed via OE, completely working fine. Was even able
to create and run VMs off it.
I tried removing the host from the OE (put host into maint. mode and
then remove) and when i re-discover
the same host, OE just keeps seeing it as Non-responsive.
I am able to ssh into the host and see that none of the vdsm processes
have been started.
I tried doing "Confirm host has been rebooted" on the OE, did not help.
I tried putting
host into maint. mode and re-activating the host, just doesn't help
I waited for ~45 mins thinking OE might connect to the host, start vdsm
and get me the Up status
but it failed.
Do i need to manually start vdsm in such a scenario on the host ?
Are there ways or methods to have OE forcibly start vdsm on the host ?
thanx,
deepak

Sorry for breaking the thread, technical issues.
Currently we handle standard platforms (ie- not the node),
by using the all-in-one rpm which is currently in work.
So when you add a host via the REST you may specify not
to reboot it, and you should not specify power-management
from properties, which will make sure fencing will not occur.
Other than that there's no specific awareness to the host
being an angine-core host.

[Users] engine setup failes using seprate /usr partition

Running engine-setup fails when using a seperate /var partion

Exception: Could not copy ROOT.war configuration into Jboss profile
The installer tries to make a hard link to somewhere is /usr to
/etc/ovirt-engine, which is not possible since /usr is on a separate
disk partition.
One can solve it to move /etc/overt-engine to
/usr/local/etc/ovirt-engine en create a symbolic link in /etc/
I would like to report a bug, where can do this?

[Users] How to migrate the Ovirt management server/frontend to another machine ? (what files are needed, etc)
by Morgan Cox
Hi.
As we are using Fedora16 as the OS on the frontend I would like to know
what files/DB's, etc are needed to migrate the management server/frontend
to another machine?
I ask as the support life of Fedora is not too long, so for example when
FC17 is released I would like to migrate the machine to that - by migrate I
mean backup and re-install.
Is there any info anywhere showing what files I would need to
migrate/backup to a new frontend server? - I assume its going to be a DB
and several files - I would just like to know for sure.
Ovirt looks really nice btw - thank you to all who made this possible.
As a 2nd question - is there an ETA from when RHEL packages are going to be
ready?
Many regards

[Users] LDAP SimpleAuthentication issue.
by Sharad Mishra
Hi,
I am new to ovirt and LDAP. Looking at adding support for Tivoli
Directory Server. Here is a small java/jndi program (not using Spring
LDAP) that takes IBM intranet Id and searches the directory to return
IBM serial number.
*********
Hashtable env = new Hashtable();
env.put("java.naming.factory.initial",
"com.sun.jndi.ldap.LdapCtxFactory");
env.put("java.naming.factory.url.pkgs", "com.ibm.jndi");
env.put("java.naming.provider.url",
"ldap://<ldap-server>:389");
String dn = null;
try{
InitialDirContext dirContext = new
InitialDirContext(env);
SearchControls constraints = new
SearchControls();
String[] attr = new String[] {"uid"};
constraints.setSearchScope(SearchControls.SUBTREE_SCOPE);
constraints.setReturningAttributes(attr);
NamingEnumeration ne =
dirContext.search("ou=<ldpap-server-name>,o=ibm.com",
"(mail=" + intranetID + ")",
constraints);
**************
But when I try to use
org.ovirt.engine.core.utils.ipa.SimpleAuthenticationCheck.java, I get a
"javax.naming.AuthenticationException: [LDAP: error code 49 - Invalid
Credentials]"
I am issuing - ldapTemplate.search("", "", contextMapper);
Where contextMapper is RHDSUserContextMapper and
screenshots of ldapTemplate are attached.
There may be issues with the way I have setup filter and baseDN; but
that should not give AuthEx. At this time I am looking for ways to get
rid of authentication exception. Also, when using simple authentication,
why do I need to give password? I can run "ldapsearch -LLL
"(mail=<intranetID>)" -h <ldap-server>:389 -x" without password to give
me expected results.
Thanks
Sharad Mishra

[Users] Newly created VM will not start. Bad permissions on its virtual disk.
by Terry Phelps
I have a newly installed ovirt engine, and node. I created a new VM, gave
it a virtual disk, and a network, attached my one ISO that I have out
there, and tried to start it. It failed. The admin portal error messages
say:
2012-Feb-27, 15:40:10
Failed to run VM oel-test (User: admin@internal).
2012-Feb-27, 15:40:10
Failed to run VM oel-test on Host oravm2.

VM oel-test is down. Exit message unable to open disk path

2012-Feb-27, 15:40:08
VM oel-test was started by admin@internal (Host: oravm2).
When I go to the node, and check, the permissions do indeed look bad.
vdsm:kvm owns everything down through
/rhev/data-center/f465251e-5679-11e1-ba81-97917332892e/24b70dff-549e-46a6-a863-3a158aa6e9a3,
but below that, it looks bad. Here is a "ls -l" of that last directory:
# ls -l
total 8
drwxr-xr-x. 2 4294967294 4294967294 4096 Feb 23 16:22 dom_md
drwxr-xr-x. 3 4294967294 4294967294 4096 Feb 27 16:22 images
And then the owner and group of everything below 'images' is bad, too.
Can some help me determine what happened? And how to fix it?
