ovirt-Node + hosted engine question
by Alan Murrell
Hi All.
As I was perusing my e-mails from this list earlier today one that
caught my attention was one that had to do with ovirt-node and hosted
engine. It appeared as though it is possible to install hosted engine
on a ovirt-node "host", and indeed, when I installed ovirt-node into a
VirtualBox VM to poke around, there is a "hosted engine" option in the
menu where you can enter a URL for an ISO/pxe source for OS installtion.
I just want to clarify the following questions:
1.) Is it possible to install ovirt-node, and then install a hosted
engine?
2.) If the answer to 1.) is "Yes", does it require some sort of
NFS-enabled storage, or can you confgiure local storage on ovirt-node
and install the engine to there?
3.) Is it possible to create NFS-enabled storage on ovirt-node?
4.) Can you install the hosted engine onto external NFS storage, then
move/migrate it to local storage on ovirt-node?
I am thinking of a "lab" situation where there is only one server, but
gobs of RAM and storage. Running ovirt-node as the "host" would require
fewer space resources (not that I would necessarily be hurting for
space, but any extra I could squeeze out would not be unwelcome).
Thanks! :-)

Engine missing snapshot which is used by VM

Hello,
while analyzing a performance issue of a VM, I discovered the machine
uses a snapshot which is not referenced in Engine's database.

VM got paused state after migration

Dear Listmembers,
I have a 3 node ovirt system, it's based on self-host glusterfs.
Today, I did a vm migration but it was unsuccessful.
The vm got a paused state and it was unable to resume and it was impossible to switch off. Cause I killed it on the compute node, but it's remains as paused state.
How can I switch to power-off state this machine? At this moment I can't power on this vm.....:(
In this case are there any "friendly" solution for the future?
If I do a restart for vdsmd, that will cause other "bad" things?
Thanks in advance.

Tibor

This VM is not managed by the engine
by Mark Steele
I have a VM that was not started and is now showing as running. When I
attempt to suspend or stop it in the ovirt-shell, I get the message:
status: 400
reason: bad request
detail: Cannot hibernate VM. This VM is not managed by the engine.
Not sure how the VM was initially created on the ovirt manager. This VM is
not needed - how can I 'shutdown' and remove this VM?
Thanks

Hello,
We have a small oVirt deplopyment, with 2 INTEL CPUs and 1 AMD, therefor
we defined 2 clusters.
One of the Intel machines is running the management as well (We called
this SOL).
This deployment is connected to a NAS through NFS shares.
Suddenly (no more than 2 days) SOL is reported as "Non operational" and
in the Action Items is saying "
Host failed to attach one of the Storage Domains attached to it."
All other machines seems to be fine.
In the past we encountered similar errors after (accidental) reboot of
the hosts, but now it is not the case:
[root@sol ~]# uptime
08:10:48 up 9 days, 15:48, 1 user, load average: 0.08, 0.05, 0.12
The "funny" is that the virtual machines already started on SOL are
still running without any problems.
I am not sure what logs to check.
In /var/log/vdsm/vdsm.log we have this error, but I do not think it is
relevant:

Live VM Backups
by Chris Jones - BookIt.com Systems Administrator
From what I can tell, you can only backup a VM to an export domain if
the VM is shut down. Is a live VM backup not possible through oVirt? If
not, why not? Most other virtualization tools can handle this.
If it is possible, how do I do it through the backup API?
api.vms.myvm.export requires it to be shutdown so what would the
alternative be?
Thanks.
