Power failure recovery
by Chris Boot
Hi all,
We've got a three-node "hyper-converged" oVirt 4.1.2 + GlusterFS cluster
on brand new hardware. It's not quite in production yet but, as these
things always go, we already have some important VMs on it.
Last night the servers (which aren't yet on UPS) suffered a brief power
failure. They all booted up cleanly and the hosted engine started up ~10
minutes afterwards (presumably once the engine GlusterFS volume was
sufficiently healed and the HA stack realised). So far so good.
As soon at the HostedEngine started up it tried to start all our Highly
Available VMs. Unfortunately our master storage domain was as yet
inactive as GlusterFS was presumably still trying to get it healed.
About 10 minutes later the master domain was activated and
"reconstructed" and an SPM was selected, but oVirt had tried and failed
to start all the HA VMs already and didn't bother trying again.
All the VMs started just fine this morning when we realised what
happened and logged-in to oVirt to start them.
Is this known and/or expected behaviour? Can we do anything to delay
starting HA VMs until the storage domains are there? Can we get oVirt to
keep trying to start HA VMs when they fail to start?
Is there a bug for this already or should I be raising one?
Thanks,
Chris

Hosted engine question: why power-off
by ovirt@fateknollogee.com
Why would the hosted engine power itself off? I did not issue a power
off command
Broadcast message from root@ovirt-engine (Wed 2017-06-07 13:45:10 UTC):
"VM is shutting down!"
The system is going down for power-off at Wed 2017-06-07 13:46:10 UTC!

nic order
by Nathanaël Blanchet
Hi all,
I added a new nic on all my vms, but the MAC address pool was too small.
So I extended it from 00:1a:4a:22:1f:00 to 00:1a:4a:22:1f:ff =>
00:1a:4a:22:1e:00 to 00:1a:4a:22:1f:ff.
It was okay but when rebooting some vms, nics are interverted and I
couldn't join my vm on ip!
I noticed nics were ordered now from the smallest MAC address to the
greatest one, so the last plugged nic from the new pool was now the
first in the vm, and all nics were moved at the bottom.
Is it an expected behaviour?

hosted engine install fails for bonded interface
by Ramachandra Reddy Ankireddypalle
Hi,
I created a bonded interface consisting of two network interfaces.
When I tried to install hosted engine over the bonded interface, it fails
at the end with the following error message:
[ ERROR ] Cannot automatically add the host to cluster Default:
<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//IETF//DTD HTML 2.0//EN"> <html><head> <title>400
Bad Request</title> </head><body> <h1>Bad Request</h1> <p>Your browser sent
a request that this server could not understand.<br /> </p> </body></html>
If I try to install over the eth interface instead of the bonded
interface the install succeeds. Please suggest what needs to be done to use
bonded interface.
Thanks and Regards,
Ram

Migrate Hosted Engine to a new storage
by Ling Ho
Hello,
I'm trying to migrate my Hosted Engine from a old NFS storage domain to
a new NFS storage domain. I am running 4.1 now.
I've searched around and found this reference
http://lists.ovirt.org/pipermail/users/2017-January/078739.html. Is it
possible now to migrate Host Engine storage using the GUI under 4.1? I
tried moving the disk using the GUI but it says the VM is not managed by
the engine.
Or do I need to follow the instructions listed in the post?
Thanks,
...

hosted engine unattended install fails
by Ramachandra Reddy Ankireddypalle
Hi,
hosted engine unattended install fails with the following error:
[ ERROR ] Cannot automatically add the host to cluster Default: <!DOCTYPE
HTML PUBLIC "-//IETF//DTD HTML 2.0//EN"> <html><head> <title>400 Bad
Request</title> </head><body> <h1>Bad Request</h1> <p>Your browser sent a
request that this server could not understand.<br /> </p> </body></html>
Please check Engine VM configuration.
Make a selection from the options below:
(1) Continue setup - Engine VM configuration has been fixed
(2) Abort setup
Thanks and Regards,
Ram

Hosted Engine not responding
by Maton, Brett
I'm pretty sure that I've got a failing (to boot) kernel on my Self hosted
engine, as this has happened a few times on 'regular' guest VM's
I've tried getting it to boot from (several) CD Image, but there is no
VNC console and hosted-engine --console just hangs at Escape character is ^]
Any suggestions ?
I know which LVM is the hosted engine disk but I don't know how to mount it
from the physical host, If I could mount it I could probably switch the
kernel back to an earlier one.
All else fails I have a back up of the engine taken this morning, but I
seem to recall having problems re-deploying hosted-engine when one already
exists in the cluster (dead or not)
Regards,
Brett
