EPYC CPU not being detected correctly on cluster

Hi I've an strange issue with two hosts (not using the hypervisor image) with EPYC CPUs, on the engine I got this message: The host CPU does not match the Cluster CPU Type and is running in a degraded mode. It is missing the following CPU flags: model_EPYC. Please update the host CPU microcode or change the Cluster CPU Type. But it is an EPYC CPU, the firmware is updated to the latest versions, but for some reason oVirt does not like it. oVirt 4.4.4 Second Release Candidate is now available for testing The oVirt Project is pleased to announce the availability of oVirt 4.4.4 Second Release Candidate for testing, as of November 19th, 2020. This update is the fourth in a series of stabilization updates to the 4.4 series. How to prevent hosts entering emergency mode after upgrade from oVirt 4.4.1 Note: Upgrading from 4.4.2 GA or later should not require re-doing these steps, if already performed while upgrading from 4.4.1 to 4.4.2 GA. These are only required to be done once. Due to Bug 1837864 <https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1837864> - Host enter emergency mode after upgrading to latest build If you have your root file system on a multipath device on your hosts you should be aware that after upgrading from 4.4.1 to 4.4.4 you may get your host entering emergency mode. In order to prevent this be sure to upgrade oVirt Engine first, then on your hosts: 1. Remove the current lvm filter while still on 4.4.1, or in emergency mode (if rebooted). 2. Reboot. 3. Upgrade to 4.4.4 (redeploy in case of already being on 4.4.4). 4. Run vdsm-tool config-lvm-filter to confirm there is a new filter in place. 5. Only if not using oVirt Node: - run "dracut --force --add multipath” to rebuild initramfs with the correct filter configuration 6. Reboot. Self Hosted Engine a single Bare Metal Server

Hi We are planning to set up a single ovirt node for testing. It is a single Bare Metal Server. I wonder if there is any problem setting up a Self Hosted Engine in this Bare Metal (there is no HA but we don't need it in this case)? I know it is probably not the best practice but it is for training and testing purposes. Thank you

Fix corrupt self-hosted engine

Hi all, I have a corrupt self-hosted engine (with several file system errors, postgres not able to start) and thus it does not give access to the web UI. This happened following an unlucky split brain resolution (I am running 2 nodes). The two hosts are running VMs also which I would like to keep running as they are needed. When trying to boot into rescue mode (using systemd.unit=emergency.target boot parameter) I get a cursor and nothing else. I have backups of engine files with scope all (using the engine-backup tool). What is the best approach to try and fix the engine or redeploy. Thanks for any help. Alex

How to create a backup in event of hardware failure of a single hosted engine?

Hello everyone, Currently we have a single bare metal that hosts oVirt and glusterFS which later on to be converted to a 3 nodes for HCI, currently another bare metal is coming this week and was planning to initially create it as a backup. is it possible to deploy a new hosted engine then create a gluster volume for 1st one as a backup domain then attach it to the new one if hardware failure occurred, or there is another kind of setup that can be done?

Migration VM

Hi, I installed a new server, using the ovirt iso, with the target of migrating the VMs coming from another cluster, contained on another ovirt node. I tried to migrate a vm using the Export Domain, once imported on the new node, i see the vm from web dashboard but, from command line “virsh list --all” is absent, the imported vm does not appear in the list. Also if I try to start it, I get the following error: VM X is down with error. Exit message: unsupported configuration: bus must be 0 for ide controller. Can you help me?

Hi Bradley, usually this is not supposed to happen. I can propose you a fast fix: - Set a node into maintenance (via the UI) and then from the "Installation" drop down menu (upper right) click "reinstall" There is a tab for the HostedEngine and you have to mark it as deployed/installed If it doesn't work,ssh to one of the hosts and provide the output of: hosted-engine --vm-status Best Regards В сряда, 18 ноември 2020 г., 08:08:36 Гринуич+2, McNamara, Bradley <bradley.mcnamara(a)seattle.gov> написа: I'm new to oVirt, but not new to virtualization technologies.
