Hello Jean-Louis,
As we want to bring some more action in the community and some
collaboration, we would like to setup some new place to communicate for
oVirt.
The current IRC channel is quite dead, and I think IRC is not what we
want to use anymore.
It's good that you're bringing up this topic.
Therefor the idea was to setup a Matrix Server/Channels or a
Mattermost
instance.
I think both have their advantages and disadvantages, but might be nice
to hear some feedback from the community.
What would you prefer as a place to communicate with each other?
- Matrix channel on
matrix.org
- Matrix server with multiple channels
- Mattermost instance
We use Mattermost internally ourselves and it is a great communication
tool. However, the ability to make voice calls in group rooms was
removed in the last community version. Therefore, the question would be
to what extent one can rely on the current range of functions in the
future. I would also be fine with Matrix, because the barrier to
participation is just as low here as with Mattermost and both can be
self-hosted.
I myself would probably use Mattermost/Matrix to ask or answer questions
(during the day) that might need to be asked or answered a little more
promptly than on the mailing list.
What support does RedHat provide for infrastructure? Does it still
exist? If you need hosting support, we'd be happy to help.
