Overt Networking VPN
by System Administrator
Aloha,
I am attempting to set up an Ovirt environment across every server that I currently manage. I have a set of servers in one location, behind a single firewall with multiple IP's, and I have another set of servers in a second location halfway around the world, also with their own set of IP's. Additionally, the servers have different types of Intel CPU's, and varying amounts of memory and storage. I also have a Fiber Optic SAN that I would like to use as my storage.
My question is: Do I have to set up a VPN between every server that I want to install Ovirt on in order to manage them under a single Ovirt installation? If so, how would I gain a highly available scenario? In this case, if the server acting as the VPN server failed, the entire Ovirt system would collapse as well due to inability to communicate.
My goal is to combine the resources of all of my servers so that I can live migrate VM's between them based upon workload, and also availability of hardware. If the servers in Canada fail for instance, I want the services to automatically migrate to my servers in Hawaii.
Any assistance you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Hardware setup
by Bryan Sockel
Hi,
I am looking to put together a configuration setup for a new install and was
wondering if it is ok for have both gluster and ovirt running on the same
systems, or if it was better to separate my storage on to anther platform?
I am currently looking into 3 servers with 196 GB Ram, dual 6 core proc's on
each server. Gluster would be installed on each server with a 3 way
replica, ovirt would be running as an appliance and each node would be part
of the ovirt cluster.

Moving Hosted Engine Disk
by Charles Kozler
Hi - I followed this doc successfully
https://www.ovirt.org/documentation/how-to/hosted-engine/ with no real
issues
In oVirt I have the hosted_storage storage domain and the one I created
(Datastore_VM_NFS) to be a master domain - this is all fine
My hosted_storage domain is on a SAN that is being deprecated. I am
wondering what I need to do to **move** the disks for Hosted Engine VM off
of that storage domain and on to another one. I can create a new volume on
the new SAN where the VMs are stored but from all that I have found it
doesnt look like I can actually move the hosted engines disks with out
possibly rerunning the entire hosted-engine --deploy but I am not sure if
this will cause any other conflicting problems
Thanks

BSD Guests + oVirt
by Hanson
Hi Guys,
Is there any optimizations for using FreeBSD 10.3 with ovirt?
The guest OS works fine, however, the engine frequently lists the wrong
status for the VM, like rebooting, booting etc.
ovirt-guest-tools doesn't support freebsd from what I can find.
Thanks!

Hello,
i'll try again, but i already did the same test with the vlan set as
native on the interface and configured the Logical Network without
vlan. The only difference was that firewall was up.

Ovirt and network cards usage

Hi,
In my server I have 4 nics
I was thinking about using NIC3 and 4 for starage (ISCSI or NFS)
Two (NIC1 and 2) For management and VM traffic using VLAN.
But when I installed Ovirt, I had to use the firts NIC without Vlan. Native vlan did not work. So at the switch the NIC1 and 2 are in mode access.
After deploying hosted-engine the ovirtmgmt network was create on first NIC. If I want redundancy I would have to add nic 2 to ovirtmgmt .
And there is no more NICS for the VMs.
Are there a way to configure VLAn on ovirtmgmt, moving hosted-engine to a VLAN?
Any idea?
Thanks
Sincerily
