high number of IOPS from ovirt hosts
by Andrea Fagiani
Hi,
We've got a 8-host cluster running oVirt 4.1; each host is connected via
iscsi to a EQL 4100 storage (2x).
Most of the VMs use barely any IOPS, however on our storage controller
we've noticed a constant steam of reads, about 2000 IOPS; any idea what
might cause the ovirt hosts to hammer on the storage so much?
Looking at iotop, it seems that systemd-udevd is being activated every
few seconds (and its IO% is usually fairly high) so I assume this might
be somehow related.
Thanks,
Andrea

questions about migrating to self-hosted engine from bare-metal
by cmc
Hi,
I want to migrate from a bare-metal engine to a self-hosted one. I'm
following the guide at:
http://www.ovirt.org/documentation/self-hosted/chap-Migrating_from_Bare_M...
I've created a new VM with el 7.3 on the existing cluster, and used an
NFS share as storage on another VM, (which does not fill up). It gets
most of the way through and then mentions failing to execute
'closing_ip', and fails to start the VM:
[ INFO ] Creating Image for 'hosted-engine.lockspace' ...
[ INFO ] Image for 'hosted-engine.lockspace' created successfully
[ INFO ] Creating Image for 'hosted-engine.metadata' ...
[ INFO ] Image for 'hosted-engine.metadata' created successfully

[ INFO ] Image successfully imported from OVF
[ INFO ] Destroying Storage Pool

The following network ports should be opened:
tcp:5900
tcp:5901
tcp:9090
udp:5900
udp:5901
An example of the required configuration for iptables can be found at:
/etc/ovirt-hosted-engine/iptables.example
In order to configure firewalld, copy the files from
/etc/ovirt-hosted-engine/firewalld to /etc/firewalld/services
and execute the following commands:
firewall-cmd -service hosted-cockpit
firewall-cmd -service hosted-console
[ INFO ] Creating VM

Log file is located at
/var/log/ovirt-hosted-engine-setup/ovirt-hosted-engine-setup-20170213141937-0wgc31.log
In the vdsm log, it appears to be complaining about the volume not
existing, but I can see it (it is on NFS)
I've attached the vdsm.log and answers.conf
Any help appreciated.
Thanks,
Cam

Bandiwdth limit on a Virtual Machine
by Fernando Frediani
Hello.
Is there any limitation of bandwidth for a Virtual Machine per default ?
I have a host with a bonding of 3 x 1Gb and the VM is connected to that
bonding. On the Engine interface on the VM status I see "Network" and it
has a percentage and a tiny graph. What that percentage is related to ? 1Gb
? 3Gb ? 10Gb ?
Is there anything that has to be done in order the VM can achieve speeds
over 1Gbps ?

Hi,
got a new FC Storage (EMC Unity 300F) which is seen by my Hosts additional =
to my old Storage for Migration.
New Storage has only on PATH until Migration is done.
I already have a few VMs running on the new Storage without Problem.
But after starting some VMs (don't really no whats the difference to workin=
g ones), the Path for new Storage fails.
Engine tells me: Storage Domain <storagedomain> experienced a high latency =
of 22.4875 seconds from host <host>
Where can I start looking?
In /var/log/messages I found:

Ovirt not seeing cinder usage
by Jordan Conway
Hello,
Is it normal to not see the usage of a ceph backed cinder storage domain?
If not, can someone point me in the right direction to see what I should be
troubleshooting, I don't see anything obvious in vdsm/engine logs.
This is what I see on the general tab of the storage domain:
Size:[N/A]
Available:[N/A]
Used:[N/A]
Allocated: 690 GB
Over Allocation Ratio: 0%
Warning Low Space Indicator: 0% (0 GB)
Critical Space Action Blocker: < 1 GB
Thank you,
Jordan Conway

Upgrading oVirt-Node-NG from 4.0.3 to 4.0.6
by Thomas Kendall
We recently migrated from 3.6 to 4.0, but I'm a little confused about how
to keep the nodes up to date. I see the auto-updates come through for my
4.0.3 nodes, but they don't seem to upgrade them to the newer 4.0.x
releases.
Is there a way to do this upgrade? I have two nodes that were installed
with 4.0.3, and I would like to bring them up to the same version as
everything else.
For reference, the 4.0.3 nodes were built off the 4.0-2016083011 iso, and
the 4.0.6 nodes were built off the 4.0-2017011712 iso.
Thanks,
Thomas

missing hvc0 device on hosted engine

I've been running oVirt 4.0.x for a while now and upgraded the engine and h=
osts to 4.1. Sometimes, on both 4.0 and 4.1, trying to run the "hosted-engi=
ne -console" command gives the following results:
The engine VM is running on this host
Connected to domain HostedEngine
Escape character is ^]
error: internal error: cannot find character device <null>
Once this starts occurring, it never works again.
When this happens I note that the hvc0 device does not exist in /dev and th=
erefore there is no getty process running for that device. I notice that th=
e "Enable VirtIO serial console" box is not checked on the hosted engine VM=
but when I check it and click OK it's unchecked again when I open up the e=
dit window again.
How do I get console control back from my oVirt hosts?
Thank you,
Sandy Berger

Current state of UI brick management when using dedicated interfaces for ovirtmgmt & gluster?
by Doug Ingham
Hey Guys,
I currently use dedicated interfaces & hostnames to separate gluster
traffic on my "hyperconverged" hosts.
For example, the first node uses "v0" for its management interface & "s0"
for its gluster interface.
With this setup, I notice that all functions under the "Volumes" tab work,
however I'm unable to import storage domains with "Use managed gluster",
and hosts' bricks aren't listed under the "Hosts" tab.
My engine log is also full of entries such as this...
2017-02-10 03:25:07,155-03 WARN
[org.ovirt.engine.core.vdsbroker.gluster.GlusterVolumesListReturn]

's0:/gluster/data-novo/brick' - server uuid
'a9d062c6-7d01-404f-ab0c-3ed468e60c91' not found
I'm wondering whether the different hostnames used to configure each of the
interfaces is casuing the confusion?
So...is there something wrong, or is this still an unsupported
configuration?
Cheers,

Issue with Moving Disks
by Bryan Sockel
Hi,
I attempted to move a few disks from a glusterFS to an ISCSI file system. I
have number of errors during the process, and it looks like a few of the
disk moves are hung. They are hung at various percentages. in the events,
it says moving Disk X from A to B, validation completes but i copying volume
returns with an error.
Is there a way to kill the move process so i can have access back to the
VM's?
Thanks
